Our China hub has commissioned a new full-scale Ex test facility in Pudong, supporting Ex d, Ex e and Ex t certification for hazardous-area equipment manufactured in or shipped through China. Here is what the facility offers.
On 27 March 2026 we commissioned our new Ex test laboratory in Shanghai's Pudong district, in the same building as our China headquarters. The facility is operated by the same team that manages our European Ex labs and runs to the same internal protocols.
Capability. The new laboratory covers IEC 60079-1 (flameproof Ex d), IEC 60079-7 (increased safety Ex e), IEC 60079-31 (dust ignition protection Ex t) and IEC 60079-15 (type of protection Ex n). The facility includes a 4 m³ Ex d test chamber suitable for full-scale industrial enclosures up to IIC gas group.
Why Shanghai. A growing share of hazardous-area equipment for global oil-and-gas and chemical projects is manufactured in China. Shipping prototypes to European labs adds 4-6 weeks per cycle to the certification programme. Local testing collapses that to 1-2 weeks while keeping the same accreditation footprint and certificate output.
Accreditation. The lab operates under ISO/IEC 17025 with scope covering the IEC 60079 series. Test reports are accepted under the IECEx scheme without re-witnessing, and feed directly into ATEX type-examination certificates issued by our European Notified Body partners.
Capacity. The facility takes both Boem clients and external manufacturers on a fee-for-service basis. Initial capacity is approximately 60 active programmes with a target of 100 by end of 2026.
Booking and timelines. First slots are available from 15 April 2026. Programme planning typically takes 5-7 working days, sample preparation 1-2 weeks, and the test campaign 1-3 weeks depending on equipment scope.
