How it works

Four steps from scope to certificate.

  1. Equipment review

Determine the protection concept and applicable IEC 60079 sub-standards for your equipment.

  2. Type test

Laboratory testing per the relevant IEC 60079 series in an accredited Ex test facility.

  3. QA audit

Initial Quality Assurance audit of the production site to verify the manufacturing controls.

  4. Certificate

IECEx CoC and/or ATEX type-examination certificate issued, plus annual surveillance schedule.

FAQ

Frequently asked.

What's the difference between ATEX and IECEx?
ATEX is the EU directive — mandatory for the European market. IECEx is a global certification scheme accepted by 40+ countries. They share the same IEC 60079 standards but follow different certification routes. Most manufacturers exporting globally hold both.
Do I need both ATEX and IECEx?
If your equipment goes both to the EU and to other regions (Middle East, Asia, parts of Latin America), holding both keeps market access simple and avoids re-certifying for each country.
Are surveillance audits required?
Yes — annual surveillance under IECEx and at intervals defined by the ATEX module (D / E / F). Boem coordinates these so they stack with your existing ISO 9001 audit when possible.
